Glenn Hayter
Glenn’s musical career started, like so many in the Brass Band world, in the Salvation Army and at the age of 7 he learnt to play the cornet. Over the years he progressed, playing virtually all the instruments associated with a Brass Band and finally ending up on Euphonium. Throughout his younger days he never missed an opportunity to play in local orchestras, youth bands and the school band, where he excelled. After leaving school Glenn joined the Metropolitan Police and decided to further his musical career by auditioning for the Metropolitan Police Military Band. During his 13 years with the band, Glenn was promoted to Drum Major, being responsible for all marching engagements, including various marching displays. His involvement with the band included many concerts and tours all over the country and abroad, including State Openings of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, BBC Listen to the Band and Friday Night is Music Night, as well as many recordings. During this time, Glenn did not neglect the Brass Band world and when time permitted, he continued playing in local bands as a soloist, conductor and Drum Major. With all this wealth of experience, Glenn finally decided to devote his time to conducting and gladly accepted the challenge of training and developing the Staines Lammas Band in October 2002. Since then the band has gone from strength to strength and will hopefully continue to do so. |
