Staines Lammas Band

Staines Brass was formed in 1930 and is currently a band celebrating a number of successful years of music making. The band won 1st prize at the London and Southern Counties 1st section Qualifiers in both 2004 & 2005 which took the band to the National finals of Great Britain held in Harrogate where the band achieved 3rd in 2004 and 2nd in 2005. In 2006 things got even better with the band gaining promotion to the Championship section and took 2nd place at the qualifiers which took them to the National Finals for a 3rd successive year but this time against the countries top bands at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The band took 11th place which is to date the bands finest hour.

Since playing at the Royal Albert Hall, the band is now emerging from a difficult period having to withdraw from the Regional Finals in 2007. However, under the baton of Melvin White, Staines Brass have managed to rebuild thanks to a strong core of dedicated & talented players. In 2008, the band competed once more in the  Championship section of the Regional Finals & gained a reputable 5th placing securing their status within London & Southern Counties.

The band continues to go from strength to strength & looks forward to maintaining their Championship standing.

Mission

The band’s mission is threefold and include;

  • To be a Championship section band attracting good quality players who would like to participate in regular contesting. Such contests include the Area, National finals (if qualified), Spring Festival/British Open as well as a range of local contests.

  • To strengthen ties with the local community by organising and/or participating in concerts and events in and around the Staines area. The band will also play at the band stand in Lammas Park (next to the band room) during the summer months. Over the years close relationships with the Council have developed which is of great benefit to the band.

  • To encourage kids to play music by undertaking children’s themed events, such as Pots and Pans in the Park. As well as encouraging kids to play an instrument, the band realises that young musicians of today may well be the future members of the band.
